
Gulf Medical University Achieves Multiple 5-Star Ratings in Latest QS Survey
The University has received 5-star ratings for Teaching, Employability, Facilities and Inclusiveness according to the latest ratings published by QS World University Rankings
Gulf Medical University (GMU) – Ajman, a leading medical university in the Gulf region has been awarded five-star ratings for four key categories by QS, the top international university ranking agency. The University has achieved five-star ratings in the categories of teaching, employability, facilities and inclusiveness, according to the latest data published in 2019 by the agency.
GMU has evolved as one of the most popular medical universities in the region, drawing students from more than 80 countries and faculty/researchers staff from over 25 countries. Located in Thumbay Medicity, the hub of cutting-edge healthcare technology and services, GMU has always been at the forefront of innovation in medical education, healthcare and research.

Thumbay Hospital Dubai Signs Expansion Project with Thumbay Builders
One of the largest construction companies of the Northern Emirates, Thumbay Builders will construct the expanded facilities of the hospital including the OPD, inpatient rooms, VIP amenities and state-of-the-art healthcare amenities including ICUs/CCUs/NICUs
Thumbay Hospital – Dubai, the leading academic hospital under Thumbay Group’s Healthcare Division has signed an expansion project with Thumbay Builders, for a substantial expansion of its facilities. The agreement was signed at Thumbay Medicity recently, by Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay – Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group and Mr. Akram Moideen Thumbay – Director Operations of Construction & Renovation Division and Director of Thumbay Technologies, in the presence of Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Thumbay Group.
The expansion includes the addition of over 13,000 square meters of built-up area by expanding the existing ground and first floor areas, as well as the addition of a new 4-storey building (ground + three floors) with advanced facilities. New inpatient rooms, OPD clinics, treatment rooms and dental clinics would be added to the existing building. A new Cath Lab, VIP patient room, ICUs and CCUs would also be added.
The new building would house a crèche, mortuary, pharmacy, restaurant, VIP lounge, day care beds, Standard/Deluxe/VIP patient rooms, women’s consultation rooms, LDRs, NICU, Well Baby Nursery and isolation rooms. The project also involves expansion of the hospital’s parking facility and addition of service areas and children’s play area. The project will be completed in phases.
Dr. Thumbay Moideen said that the expansion project of Thumbay Hospital Dubai is part of the Group’s strategic plans which includes having a total of 1000 beds in the UAE, 1500 beds in India and 750 beds elsewhere in the Gulf and Africa by 2023. Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay said that the expansion would enable Thumbay Hospital Dubai to provide more and better services, considering its growing number of patients and the rising demand for high-quality specialized treatments.
Speaking about the project, Mr. Akram Moideen Thumbay said that Thumbay Builders is keen to consolidate its reputation as specialized builders of world-class healthcare facilities. “We always focus on integrating the latest technology with the efficient use of resources, delivering unmatched customer satisfaction. With our team of expert professionals and latest technology, we are confident of completing the project on time, within the budget,” he added.

Thumbay Group ranked among ‘Top 50 private companies in the UAE’ by Forbes Middle East
The ranking has been done on the basis of employee strength, global presence and diversity of business sectors

GMU to become International Center Conducting MRCP (UK) PACES Examination in UAE
Gulf Medical University, Ajman is establishing itself as an International Centre to run the MRCP (UK) PACES Examination in UAE. A group of Directors and Expert Examiners from the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK had visited GMU from 27th to 29th November 2018 to run the PACES Mock Exam and to meet and interact with the academic leadership and clinical faculty.
Congratulating GMU on its superior standards and quality, Dr. Donald L. Farquhar, International Medical Director (Assessment) said that he expected GMU to run the first MRCP (UK) PACES examination in June 2019. “The MRCP PACES exam is the biggest clinical exam internationally, attempted by over 6000 clinical trainees around the world. Places like GMU are a huge asset to us, as we endeavor to facilitate greater convenience for the examinees,” he added.

Gulf Medical University Signs MoU with the Federation of the Royal College of Physicians UK for Offering Post Graduate Program and Establishing International Examination Center
The agreement will enable GMU to deliver a UK-equivalent postgraduate Internal Medicine Training (IMT) Program in UAE
An agreement signed between Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman and the Federation of the Royal College of Physicians UK has further expanded GMU’s portfolio of international partnerships, at the same time widening student exposure and opportunities in terms of globally recognized programs.
The MoU was signed at the GMU campus on 29th November 2018, by Prof. Hossam Hamdy, the Chancellor of GMU and Prof. David Black, International Medical Director (Training), Federation of the Royal College of Physicians UK. The agreement has established a strong partnership between GMU and the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom, enabling the University to deliver a UK-equivalent postgraduate Internal Medicine Training (IMT) Program in UAE. The training program will be conducted over a period of three years across all hospitals and clinics within the GMU Academic Health System, and will be supervised and monitored by the Joint Royal College of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB).
Prof. Hossam Hamdy said that the agreement is an important step for GMU. “GMU, as a leading University of health professions education, is pleased to tie-up with such a prestigious organization as the Federation of the Royal College of Physicians UK, with many decades’ experience influencing medical practice in the UK and beyond. This is in line with our vision to be a leading international academic healthcare institution through the integration of quality health professions education, research, healthcare and social accountability for sustainable community development,” he said.
Prof. David Black said that the Federation was delighted to be working with GMU. “Gulf Medical University is already at the forefront of changes in medical education. We are looking forward to starting our IMT program at GMU from September 2019,” he remarked.
